/post break/ What to buy from each Korean brand
written on Sunday, August 30, 2015 @ 11:43 PM ✈
of cosmetics and skin care LOL. If you don't already have an extensive list of your own, or you get overwhelmed at the multitude of products when you step into any of their stores, then you can't go wrong with getting some of the internet favourites! So here's a list of some things each brand is known for (or at least according to me haha...).
But first!
Tip #5 - Your best bet is probably to head to Myeongdong (aka. Rosemary and my second home in Korea). Why? Each brand has multiple stores there so don't buy all your things in one store. For example, if there's a couple of things you want from Etude House, don't buy it all in one. Instead, spread out your purchases over a few of their stores. That way you'll get more samples (some stores give them to you for free when you enter, as well as when you purchase something) and you'll find that different stores have different sales (yes, even if they're the same brand). So if for example the moisturiser you want isn't on sale in one store, you might find it is in another store a few hundred metres down!
((to be updated when I remember more OTL))
Etude House - known for almost all of their products having some kind of scent and for "cute" packaging. People favourites: Moistfull Collagen line (in particular, Moistfull Collagen Cream), Wonder Pore Freshner, Play 101 Pencil (more than 70 colours), cheap and plenty of eyeshadow colours, Beauty Shot Face Blur, Every Month Cleansing Foam (one for every month, to target different problems), Proof 10 Eye Primer which is meant to be a dupe for the Urban Decay one.
Innisfree - known for using natural ingredients, namely those from Jeju Island. People favourites: Super volcanic pore clay mask, Green Tea Seed Serum, Olive Real Cleansing Foam, No Sebum Mineral Powder.
Tony Moly - Fruit hand creams, Bunny Gloss Bar, and their Banana line. Once I was in one of their Korean stores, I heard some eager Japanese girls ask the assistant for the banana products and she directed them to the fruit hand creams (misunderstood them). They then said: Nooo, banana! Banana! And when she finally understood and showed them, I heard loud shrieks of "KAWAIIII~!!"
Banila Co. - I didn't get anything from this one but the Prime Primer is meant to be good, as well as the Clean it Zero.
Aritaum - wide variety of eyeshadows.
Holika Holika - Personally I don't like them all too much after they not only flagged us down, but the advertising person even GRABBED onto me o_o The only thing I know that they're well known for is their Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream.
Clio - My eternal love!! Creators of Gelpresso Pencil Gel Liner (it's basically just eyeliner, with many colours), they're also known for their lip tints, and their Kill Black/Brown Pen or Brush Liner (and less so for their Kill Cover Foundation). Everyday I had the gelpresso liner on, at the end of the day Rosemary would never fail to say "It hasn't budged AT ALL!!!!" though I didn't need the update because Clio gets me •ᴗ• Though for some reason it did fail me once, which was the purple liner. Pink does not budge AT ALL, but the purple disappeared within 30 minutes. Guess my face rejects the purple. To quote Rosemary, "dude, it's all gone. The purple's all gone."
Peripera - I think of it as a branch off Clio, also known for their lip tints and awesome ass eye liners. The Wholly Deep range is good.
IOPE - IOPE Air Cushion XP is sworn by many. Including Rosemary.
It's Skin - Their Babyface line is popular, whether it's because it looks cute or because it's good, who knows? It includes things like mascara, base, lip tint, eyeliner, pacts and more. They all have this emoji-like face with angel wings (google it). Their one minute innovation nail polishes are good, they are actually TOUCH DRY after a minute, unlike what we have here.
Laneige - People favourites include Water Sleeping Pack, and their BB Cushion.
Missha - their BB creams are well known, as well as Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence. The BB boomer is supposedly a good base for BB creams (it's kind of average for me).
Nature Republic - a large range of lip tints and lip products in general, including the Botanical Cushion Gradient Tint, Eco Crayon Lip Rouge. The Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel is their iconic product, and they usually have a table stacked with the stuff.
SkinFood - The Black Sugar Mask Wash Off is loved by SO many people, as well as their Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream which Rosemary absolutely fell in love with. Unfortunately it doesn't work as well on me cause my eye bags are too far gone. HAH. Anyway, the Peach Sake Pore Serum also seems pretty high up there.
The Face Shop - People favourites: Velvet Skin Primer, Herb Day 365 Cleansing Foam, and FACEit Styling Auto Gel Liner.
Too Cool for School - my impression of them was bright lipsticks.
