July 8th – Shinjuku

Pointless side story #2 - You might think "oh why bother learning the Korean/Japanese alphabet, most signs have English anyway" which would be fair enough, but I'm going to say I'm glad both Rosemary and I learnt the Korean alphabet before we went. (In Korea) As it turns out, a lot of the things on google maps are written in Korean (surprise, surprise) so if you want to successfully orientate yourself or find direction it greatly helps if you can read the Korean names of places displayed on google maps, then find the actual building/shop/whatever in real life. Without it, a recognisable "landmark" with English on google maps is few and far between! Our Korean reading speed was pretty impressive by the end of our time in Korea lol ( ・ㅂ・)
Woke up around 8:05 and had the green tea and choc chip waffles for breakfast.
Afterwards, we left house around 9:30 to get to shinjuku gyoen, and got there approx 10 or so cause when we go to our station we had to walk like 800m for marunouchi line == When we got out at shinjuku we asked koban for directions to check we were going the right way.
Walked around and took lots of pictures, on the giant lawn rosemary and I took spin shots and I hate spinning and got super dizzy and felt really sick (the kind where you feel something in your throat but you don't and won't throw up). Left about 12-12:30 and we went to Marui One where rosemary bought a firefly fan, and we also stopped by Seria where I bought some onigiri rice molds and other cooking things.
After that, we had lunch in the upstairs of marui one and rosemary and I both got the same set which had a bread (with some kind of nice filling), omurice, tomato and onion soup, and mashed potato. Then left to kinokuniya where we asked another koban along the way in case. We then walked to Adhoc Building next to it to find naruto manga, finally got my vol. 72.
By then it was almost 2:30 and we had to leave to go back home to bring our stuff to Rosemary's dad so we could lighten our luggage. Got home around 3 and said we'd leave at 3:20. Took us a long time to actually leave cause rosemary's bag broke. Ugh and she had at least 2 x 5kg bags while I only had one bag which I mostlly fit into my backpack.
But no, since rosemarbum's bag was so heavy, she only carried one while I had to carry my umbrella, my own bag AND ONE OF HER 5KG BAGS AS WELL AS THE BACKPACK WHICH WAS HEAVY. Don't even want to talk about it, we struggled our way to the station somehow, had to transfer and then got to shinjuku... We go out the east gate and we weren't sure where they were and just as we were about to move from being next to the gate, Hiroshi's mum appeared behind and suddenly tapped rosemary and I heard fast speaking chinese before I turned around and was shocked someone was so near us (and the right person we wanted to see!). She calls Hiroshi since he's up higher in the station (cause we took subway, they probably took JR). Hiroshi actually comes with a suitcase (which Rosemary warned him to bring, since we had so much stuff) and we shove everything inside, which surprisingly fit.
Felt so bad cause we had so much to shove in and people were fully staring as we were packing a completely open suitcase on the floor just outside the station gate. People even slowed down to stare as they passed and one lady was fully walking fast then completely slowed to snail speed to stare as she walked by. Another older lady stood behind rosemary for a good 2 mins to stare at her packing (with an amused expression). Hiroshi's mum thought we bought the stuff in harajuku lol....
Anyway Hiroshi's mum wheels the suitcase away to keep it at their place until Rosemary's parents arrive in Japan. Hiroshi takes us to karaoke (just about 50m outside the station) and it was extremely hard to use the song remote thing cause you have to type song title or artist directly in but afterward we got the hang of it. Also, there is no back up voices on the song so it's only your own voice. They had Naruto openings and endings! Hiroshi left early while we stayed until about 8:30.
For dinner, got chicken katsu curry and today's was not as spicy as yesterday's. Rosemary didn't want meat so only got the mushroom curry.
Afterwards went to find donki and got completely trolled by both google maps (this is why I hate google maps) and Shinjuku's tendency to always rotate their info maps according to your view. In short, we basically ended up walking 3 sides of a rectangle, before we figured out that it was basically on the street running perpendicular to our curry place and uniqlo (big and very visible) street, but just further down. Anyway it was super small and crowded with asian tourists. I don't know why but the ginza one was infinitely better (and yet the Shinjuku one is meant to be the main).
By the way, today started off with good weather but by kinokuniya time it was raining again and continued with horrible non-stop rain. This is day 2 of gross "water in my shoes = squelching sounds and feels, black socks + white pruney feet and toes" thanks to rain. Ugh. You might not think it's bad but try walking around with wet feet for 6+ hours, I promise you that it's well and truly gross.
Anyway went home afterwards, stopped by next door supermarket for toilet paper since conbini had none, and went inside and drank the umeshu we bought from donki after our shower. Got home about 11. Tastes pretty good actually, quite sweet and doesn't absolutely burn on the way down, just quite warm. When you get up, it settles down in your stomach, making it all warm o_o Also we have no shot glasses so rosemary and I just poured some into our empty drink bottles to drink lol.
