July 6th - Harajuku
written on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 @ 11:28 PM ✈

Can we please just rejoice in the fact that today is officially the end of winter?? Though spring still leaves much to be desired (seeing as it screws up my normally already bad nose even more) but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Note: Best read in conjunction with the album photos.
Today's post goes from this photo here to here --- log in to see them.

Tip #6 - In Japan, if someone says they are giving you "service" (サービスをする = sabisu wo suru) then you're getting something for free! In Korea, 서비스 = seobiseu means the same thing. Don't ask why they chose that English word, it's just how it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Woke up at 8am and bought tonkatsu gratin roll (basically tonkatsu and creamy sauce/mayo) as well as melon pan from convenience store downstairs. Left at 9:30 cause we had breakfast and went to akasaka station, took chiyoda line straight to Akihabara. At Harajuku station there was a bamboo tree set up for tanabata so we wrote our wishes and hung them up. Went to Meiji jingu first then afterwards yoyogi koen for a brief bit and took a picture with the rose garden there (left about 11:30). Asked the chinese tourists there to take a pic of us and they were like "o.O they speak chinese?" about us (lol what, you thought we were Japanese?).

Afterwards we walked to Takeshita Dori and spent a while in daiso. Bought things like aonori, tenkasu, some snacks like green tea oreos and matcha caramel, pokemon curry, the coloured flakes you can make to colour onigiri rice, waterproofing spray.

Afterwards we went into this little department store within takeshita dori, bought these star shaped snacks (which are for celebrating tanabata?) and they also had harajuku koibito which looked exactly the same as shiroi koibito. Also we both did a gachapon for a harajuku badge which came in 3 designs, I got the pink bunny with ice cream cone (yesss).

Went to the disney store briefly in that centre, and went up to eat at the kawaii world cafe for lunch (by then it was 2pm). Had the tiramisu pancake set with extra strawberry mascarpone ice cream. Afterwards tried to find some of the little stores at the end of takeshita dori but weren't there as there was some construction work going on. Went to Line store and took pics, then to La Foret as we could see it.

Bought a very expensive dress there!!!!! owo Bought from Olive des Olive and the girls there are sooo nice. Like when I asked to try on the white version of the dress, the girl said in japanese because it's sleeveless, it'll go well with a shirt underneath so I did it (remember when I told you guys Japanese people are against sleeveless without anything under or on top?). Went inside to change and they had the face protector thing so clothes won't get stained hehe. When I came outside a different girl, as well as the cashier (whose spot is near the change rooms) was like kawaii!!! But Rosemary and I thought the darker one would be better so I tried it.

Next when I came out the girl said which one did I like better so I answered in japanese and she said my japanese was うまい (umai)!! I denied it with そんな事はありません (that's not true) but Rosemary was nearby and said ARIMASU and the girl laughed. She asked if we were friends travelling together and rosemary jokingly said 妹 (imouto = sisters) but I didn't want her to 誤解する (gokai suru = misunderstand) so I quickly said 冗談です!!(she's joking) and thankfully she understood lol. Don't quite remember what else we talked about, she asked where we were from, said she wanted to go to Australia too and asked if there are many japanese people there. I told her we were also going to kyoto, osaka etc. (The entire conversation is in Japanese because it's obviously more comfortable for them to talk in their native language). Anyway Rosemary forced me to go back and change and eventually I came out and gave the lady the dress I didn't want as well as the face protector cause I didn't know what to do with it. She seemed surprised but happy that I had it (showing I used it?) lol. Anyway I told her これを買うと思います and she said thank you so many times and went off with it so I thought she was putting it back but she got it from storage and also told me that it was new (in retrospect, did she mean the design or the dress?).

Anyway paid for it! And we left after saying goodbye. We looked at corset and general "lolita stuff" for quite a while cause Rosemary was interested in it then we left to try and find UTS store clothing but couldn't find it as usual google troll or it shut down. So we left and went to kiddy land, and they also had free gift wrapping so I got it wrapped why not lol.

Afterwards went onto cat street to find takoyaki, and when we finished we walked along dark cat street cause it was night time (8pm?). Ended up at the end of the street and asked nearby family mart where the nearest station was. Guy there apologetically let me know we were smack bang in the middle of shibuya and harajuku and asked which was preferred so I said Harajuku (he honestly looked really sad telling us that, even though I was fine either way because walking long distance is what we do!!). He pulls out a map from under the register (typical of convenience stores to do this) and shows us the direction. Was super helpful and nice and didn't speak at lightning speed whew. Once again the whole exchange was successfully done in Japanese hehe.

Stopped at a cinnabon before the station, got a 4 pack of original cinnamon rolls for future breakfasts.

Walked back to station and got home about 9:30 or 10.

Forecast was 21°C with 97% humidity except it felt like a "comfortable" mid-twenties but slightly cool but no where near good enough to be summer hot. Was raining THE WHOLE DAY I'm not even joking. Basically from when we ran to the convenience store, to when we left for Akihabara as well as walking around the city. In fact, our shoes got so wet, the stupid squelching thing happened and lasted the whole day, which was great and made my feet white and pruny AND when I got home socks were wet and black, and the water "line" went up to my ankles.

Now 12:09
