short lived

Well the strike was a lie because all my lecturers were like "we're not part of it so tomorrow is still on." I guess it was short lived happiness thinking that I could stay at home but it doesn't really matter since even though I'm sad that tomorrow is a long day, it's probably best to start getting into the routine of it earlier on. If it weren't for the prac and tutorial tomorrow I would totally skip T_T
I hated chem in year 12 but it's actually cool for now because we're just learning the suuuuper basics (pretty sure year 7's know this stuff already) so for now I can sit back and be like "yay I know this!" I think the lecturer is pretty awesome. He did that whole "putting sodium and lithium into water" demonstration that we all know and love and I love how the petri dish thing broke pretty much straight away when he put the tiny piece of sodium in xD Everyone was really excited when that happen -sigh- lol After that, the sodium was still sitting in some water and he started putting more clear liquid onto it and the class got riled up saying "lol why is he putting more water on it? He wants it to break something again?" When really he was putting ethanol on it to stop it reacting xD
I'm really liking this lecturer cause he seems cooler than the other one running at the same time who my friend has and she told me they didn't get to do the same demonstration (the one I'm about to talk about). There was a container at the front of the class filled with what I think was detergent bubbles/suds and he was also filling it with helium gas and if we waited long enough, a large group of the bubbles would separate and start floating up. He then lit this long pole thing (I have no idea what it was) and would make it contact with the bubble and whooshhhh there's this big sudden flame in the air. I can't really describe it but it was cool :D
He did it another time and then the third time when the bubbles were about to fly up he was like "nahhh I won't do it again" but then he changed his mind and was about to light another match but by that time the bubbles had already floated up to the ceiling out of his reach xD It eventually fell but he didn't light it and just let it go pop in his hand xD
Oh and he told us this story about someone at the uni who was studying pyrophoric substances which basically just burst into flame when they come into contact with water. The lecturer said water but google tells me air o.O Anyway one day he accidentally spilt some on the floor without realising and the next day the cleaners came and told them that they had difficulty cleaning the floor because their mop burst into flames xD I found that story so funny though I do feel sorry for the cleaners because they must have been scared / freaked out.
In my two hour break I didn't end up going to the city and I caught up with Shirley first and then Cissy who was in the scitech library which isn't really a library but more like a nice place to chill. Quite a few other baulko people were there! That was a good way to spend my break. Except everyone had to leave after an hour since that's how long their break was. Spent the other hour hanging with the friend who does the same course as me (who I shall now call D. from now on) and we discovered weird new places on campus.
We both had our stats tutorial in the engineering place (though in different rooms) and I'm wondering why they're held there since what we do isn't related to engineering? (our degree) o.O This was my first tutorial ever and I'm wondering why they're so important? Like people tell me class participation counts and how lots of people skip lectures but not tutorials. Since today was my first, before today I had no idea what a tutorial was like but now I'm just surprised because all we ended up doing was sitting in a classroom doing a work sheet xD Somehow it reminded me of high school because it was a much smaller group (obviously) and we were all just quietly doing our own thing unless we needed help.
Oh we also had to do an ice-breaker which the guy in charge of the tutorial described as "yeah we have to do that awkward ice-breaker now where you talk to the person next to you and find out their name, degree and something interesting about them." I found out that the person behind me (room was too large so basically everyone sat by themselves lol) has been a lawyer for the last four years :O She's doing the same degree as me now only because she didn't like law and wants to do something different. She also complained about how as a lawyer she had to work from 7am to 11pm everyday.
You know the funny thing is even though on our timetables, most things are scheduled in whole hours but in reality, the lectures always start 5-10 minutes late and always end about 10 minutes early because they assume people will be late because of the time it takes to get to the lecture and they let you out early in case your next place is far away. So in the end it ends up being about 40 mins which was a period back in high school! Somehow the lectures here feel both shorter and longer than a high school period. Shorter because I'm like "what? It's over already? But we didn't learn much!" And longer because I think about how an hour has passed and how back in high school we would have moved on to the next class by now.
Oh god I had a lecture from 10 to 11 and my stomach growled in the middle of it and it was so embarrassing == I don't even know why! I ate breakfast and I wasn't even hungry, stupid stomach T_T And lectures are normally sooo quiet so I'm sure people around me were like o.O Geez is my stomach missing baulko recess? I was never even hungry at recess time so I was happy that now I just need lunch and don't care about recess or "morning tea."
Oh and my sister sent this to me on the morning of the first day when I was on the train:
I didn't put it up earlier cause I'm just soooo ceebs when it comes to plugging my phone in and getting a picture. Takes a bloody long time. But yes, I was like what o_o And I told her I wasn't even going to the farm so that ain't happening (☆^ー^☆)
Got to walk with D, Carol and Cissy to the station to go home today! Saw them on the way since they were also in the engineering building. Wow walking with people makes the trip seem so much shorter and more fun too :D I got to take the same train as Carol and Cissy and their new engineering friend and it was a nice trip home because empty train + people to talk to hurray! I just realised I never asked/got told his name o_o Whoops. Well he and Carol started talking about kpop and I was like nooooooo @_@
I'm sad I finish at 4 tomorrow, probably going to be so crowded :( Why does uni feel so long? All the days so far, I left the house later than back in high school and got back at around 3 to 3:30 which is quite early and yet it feels like I got home later than that. Like today I looked at the clock and was like "what?! It's only 4?" o_o Can't wait until after tomorrow, Friday is only one two hour thing and then home! It's going to be such a long day tomorrow... I'll hardly have time to do anything worthwhile when I get home T_T
Been too busy I couldn't even play Takao's sequel :( Maybe on the weekends... And I also don't have work
this week :O I feel poor now.
Oh as an ending note, why am I sooo bad with names? People say "Hi I'm _______" and I swear after a minute I forget and it's SO awkward saying "oh umm sorry, what was your name again?" My brain has truly rotted away.
