recent update :
goodbye futurama :'(
written on Thursday, November 7, 2013 @ 11:47 PM ✈

Originally I wanted to post something different for today but I think this takes higher priority. If you know me, then you know I like watching the simpsons and futurama. Lol actually even my japanese tutor knows because it was always part of my speaking practice (for the question "what do you like to watch on TV?"). I am by no means a die-hard fan, I don't have any episodes on my computer and I only watch what comes on TV (so don't go asking me what season 3 episode 1 was etc because I wouldn't know).

So for no reason today, as I was taking a break from studying I just typed futurama into google today and then I saw this and was shocked beyond belief:

Now let's rewind two weeks back (week 12 of uni). This was a week where I felt little motivation to do anything since there was a buttload of assignments to do and the thought of impending finals made me feel worse. Nevertheless, in times like this you realise there's nothing you can do but to just solider on :/ So the whole week I ended up staying up until 1 finishing things off so I was really tired everyday. Prior to that, the TV was running new episodes of futurama on Wednesday nights.

However, with all the work I had I completely forgot about it on Wednesday and actually I even forgot about new Naruto too (SHOCKING). It didn't help that I actually spent the whole of Wednesday night sorting out some life drama and actually ended up staying up until 2:30 or so because I still had work to do after that. So for some reason it all completely skipped my mind which is incredibly weird since I normally don't forget things like that.

Fast forward a week and the episode that they played on Wednesday was a rerun so I never knew if the episode I missed was new or old.

Well, turns out it was the last episode ever of Futurama and I missed it. Seriously could not believe it. So for the first time ever I downloaded an episode of it and ditched my work for 20 minutes because I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it. Guys, you have no idea how heartbroken I was to hear that it was the last episode. Truthfully, they said it was the last episode unless it's picked up by another broadcasting company but most people (and I included) think it really is the last.

I honestly grew up watching simpsons and hell, I think I even learned to tell the time just so I knew when it was on. I used to look at the clock on the microwave and when I saw "7" and "30" I knew simpsons was on TV. Go forward a few years and they announced futurama, another show made by the creator of simpsons and I started watching it. Both cartoons are damn funny, smart and a good pick me up in their own right.

For all those who have never watched futurama, I honestly suggest you try it sometime. The show ended well, and stayed true to its theme of weird time anomalies. After all, that's how it all starts - Fry gets frozen for 1000 years and wakes up in the year 3000. I guess the only thing that could have been improved was if the other characters had a bigger part in the last episode. But honestly I'm not complaining.

Spoilers because here are my favourite lines from the ep (but you guys probs don't care about spoilers right). Fry is falling from the Vampire State Building and no matter how much he tries to go back in time with the time button, it only goes back 10 seconds and that isn't enough time to bring him to the top of the tower so he always ends up falling continuously (pressing the button when's he's about to fall splat, and then he gets teleported back to when after he starts falling from the top).

Fry: "Man, falling from a great height an infinite amount of times can be STRESSFUL. At least I have Leela's comforting scream to look forward to."

However he once gets distracted and the button flies out of his hand, which means he can't reset time and this time he actually falls splat on the ground in one of the most gruesome displays of blood and guts which is rare on futurama.

Leela: "He sure has a lot of blood for a skinny guy."

I know you might be disinterested but if you don't want to watch it, please read about the ending because I think it was quite sad and touching at the same time - When Fry has fallen to his death several times, his friends eventually figure out a way to save him but unfortunately he lands on the time button, shattering it. Since he and Leela were close enough to it, they are shielded from the effects of the time button and everyone in the universe but them is frozen in time. Basically there's no day or night anymore and nobody can move but them.

So they get married and spend the rest of their lives travelling the frozen world until they are super old D; Fry takes them back to the top of the Vampire State Building where they got engaged and asks if it was a lonely life but Leela says it wasn't because she had Fry (awwwwww). Suddenly, the professor appears from no where (he was previously killed by the time button, long story) and is able to fix the button and this will reset the universe into normal time and everyone being able to move again. However this means Fry and Leela will go back to their "younger selves" and won't remember everything that happened since the professor created the time button. It ends with Fry asking Leela if she wants to "go around again" and she answers "I do."

So touching and so sad and argh I don't like ends :'( This makes me wonder how sad I'll be when Naruto ends. You're better off just watching that last ep at least because my description doesn't do it justice (╥﹏╥)

Guys what do I even watch on TV anymore, I'll always be crushed knowing I'll never see another new ep of Futurama :( Only thing left is when they do a one ep crossover of Simpsons and Futurama some time. Argh there goes a bit of my childhood T_T

Oh and interesting fact,  the Futurama theorem is a real-life mathematical theorem invented by one of the Futurama writers purely for purpose of putting it in an episode. If you like maths, you should look at it because it's interesting! You can read about it here  <--- Click!
