New Year.......... and new phone
written on Friday, January 3, 2014 @ 10:54 PM ✈

New Year's Eve was fun since we got to wait for the fireworks! And then there was that 5-10 minute period where it started raining and everyone was probably thinking "how long is this going to go for? Are the fireworks going to be cancelled?" But all was well in the end. Oh and the toilet lines were scarily long. Ick. And when I was walking I stumbled across the girra group waiting for the fireworks and found Kebly! Well actually she called out to me xD

On New Year's Eve, I actually got to the city at about 11. And for those of you who have talked to me recently, you know I was pretty depressed about my dying phone (especially since I've had it for less than a year). Well guess what happened that day? My phone became even more sick, and where you normally have your reception and carrier show up, it just said "searching..."

Normally that comes up if you just start up your phone or maybe if your reception is bad or something but after a few seconds it should return to normal. Well guess what? It didn't. Sigh and then I had to make a spontaneous trip to the dreaded and annoying apple store. They did the usual "did you restart" and blah blah blah and of course I had done all that and then they tried to blame it on my carrier being down or something == They sent me to a mobile retailer to try swapping sims and stuff.

Well that didn't work since the mobile place told me it wasn't the sim's problem (so it's bloody Apple's problem) so off I go back to the apple store. Someone else looks at it, tries telling me to restart and stuff when that's obviously not the problem since I did it 3 times since I noticed the problem with my phone ever since I got off the train T_T Even worse is that they can't fix it and tell me to book an appointment with the bar for them to look at it. This is bad because my phone dying was an unforeseen event so I had no idea I'd have to go to the genius bar and thus didn't make a booking. So hurray for a 2 hour wait for "the next available time slot". Oh well it could have been a lot worse.

Before I got up to the bar, the lady who was checking my appointment on her ipad or whatever looked over my phone to see if she could fix it (when did this ever happen, usually they just send me straight to the bar?). And she kept staring into the earphone jack -- > this is how they check for water damage as there is something in there that changes colour if your phone is exposed to "too much" water. And I'm like "excuse me it's not water damaged x_x" well in my head at least. Once again for the third time in the day, they tried to blame it on me not having iOS 7 (screw you) and that my carrier was down. HAH.

And then at last we went to the bar and I told the guy my problem, and complained about my battery while I was at it. Once again, they told me the battery was normal == He looked into some stuff, saw that the "searching..." thing wasn't going away and decided to restore it. Of course they have to ask if I backed up everything already and I lied and said yes.... Because if I didn't they can't do anything but truthfully I don't back up everyday, my last time was about 2 weeks ago but since then I only took a few photos so nothing too important would be erased. But still, goodbye forever those photos T_T

And as the genius bar dude clicked "restore" he informed me that my phone will also be updated to the new iOS during the process, and my heart sank to the depths of hell but there was nothing I could do as there was no cancel button. And then... my phone did something amazing. It refused to restore and gave an error code. The guy looks at the screen and goes "huh, that's weird" and starts scrolling through his diagnostic device thing and for a second I was worried that it wouldn't restore because I had ahem *altered* some of my apps but it seemed like he didn't notice. Instead, he goes "well since it can't restore I guess I'll give you a new phone."

AT LAST \(≧∇≦)/ Hitting two problems (searching + battery) with one phone. And since then, my battery once again drains a neat 8% while connected to wifi while I sleep (instead of freaking 60%+) and my carrier is now once again showing so I can make calls. If they didn't fix my searching problem then my phone would have seriously been useless seeing as I can't call or text anyone. It was funny because after setting up my new phone it still said "searching..." and the guy was like "I guess you want to call your carrier then since it's still not fixed" and just as I was about to respond it popped up xD LOL owned.
And now for the serious part. My old phone, you were much more than a phone to me, you were my notepad, my gaming device, my camera, my computer. I'm sorry that we only had less than a year together and watching you die (your battery) was the saddest thing ever :'( And it was like cancer, seeing as it spread to your ability to connect to a carrier. But in the end you understood my hatred for iOS 7, and chose to die by failing to restore when you heard the guy say that it would update your iOS. It is because of you that I got to meet my new phone. Thank you and I'll never forget you (╥﹏╥) I hope my new phone can be as loyal as you. It's off to a good start though, as it has iOS 6 like you!!
RIP forever. By the way I know apple is going to repair you and give you to someone else, I hope you will be loyal to your new owner like you were for me.
