recent update :
a cat day
written on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 @ 10:39 PM ✈

So today I had my cat bag, put on my new cat phone case (it also came with a cat sticker for the home button) which was completely appropriate since today's prac was cat dissection. By the way, cats are not my favourite animal, I'm sure you guys know what my favourite animal is right?

The prac didn't have to take 3 hours though, the lecturer just went on for forever :/ And also walking into the room seemed so surreal, like the atmosphere was completely different to when we did dissections for bio prac. Since this unit is "animal structure and function" it gets more technical and all that. Also can someone tell me why the unit code is ANSC3103, as in why does it start with a 3? Doesn't that mean 3rd year subject?

Anyway yeah what's weird is when you walk into the room there are just so many tables with dead cats on them and it's just like "..." Btw if anyone wanted to ask, all the animals are sourced opportunistically, as in no animals are killed purely for dissection. They are put down first (usually pounds who can't look after them anymore :( ) and then donated to the uni. Also I don't know why but the animals always seem to have blood coming from them? Not a lot but even the rats last year had that I don't know why though.

But yeah seeing them there you know they're dead but they look so "peaceful" like they're sleeping and they'd get up any second or like they're knocked out ready for surgery but will be fine soon. The actual dissection was interesting, only down side is the smell. I can't emphasis how bad the smell is D: Oh and it's a shame I can't put up pics for you guys to see, because we have to be respectful and pictures are only for personal use. But I thought it would be interesting for you guys to be able to see what exactly it is that we do! But yeah if anyone wants to see pics you'll have to come see me then I can show you!

Ah then there was this other group's cat which had 5 baby kittens inside :( So by putting down that cat they ended a total of 6 lives... Though honestly it's not that rare of an occurrence but lots of people were interested in it. It's just that when I did work experience at a vet place back in year 10 there was a cat being desexed but she was already pregnant and apparently these cases are pretty common and basically those kittens will never be born :/

I don't know whose smart idea it was to arrange these pracs in the order of group A, group B, group B, group A because I'm in group B which means our 11 pages is due next week while group A gets like 3 weeks? Why can't the pracs just alternate A and B groups and not this retarded order.

I totally don't miss catching trains at the ugly hour of 5, so packed and so gross T_T Also for the first time ever my friends and I managed to catch the uni courtesy bus?? It takes you from campus to the station which is normally a 15-20 minute walk (though from the lovely prac rooms it's like 20-25 minutes). It was an interesting ride.

Just as I was getting close to being up to date with reading the new routes more came out yay! Honestly can't wait to play this one since a POV story seems like an interesting idea!
