子供っぽい/ kodomo-ppoi = childish. 子供 (kodomo) meaning "child" and っぽい (ppoi) meaning "like" with a negative connotation
Sooo let's have fun with this topic. You know what really sucks? When every time I go back to China, or even better, every time one of my parents' friends/relatives/ whatever come over (which is all the time) they always always ALWAYS think that my sister is the older one and when they first see me they're like "oh so this is the younger one?" Cue my eye roll as parents tell them that I'm the older one.
Man it's so annoying it happens every time even though they probably saw us even a couple of months ago. It's so stupid. Also just so you know, my sister is only like 2cm or so taller than me so it's not EXTREMELY noticeable so to look on the bright side I always just say to her "well since you're not that much taller I'll just take it as you having an older looking face than me" lol OTL
Yeah even my relatives in China get it wrong every time. And I think I mentioned this before but it's sad that the only one who got it right when they saw us was my old pre-school principal who I saw last year and could correctly identify us after all this time. I mean I haven't seen him since like the middle of primary school so that's an achievement. Mum used to always tell me stories about him like once I saw him typing on the computer and I kept saying to him "click file save!" back in pre-school which shocked him since he's like "how come this kid knows o_o"
Ah yes then there's that story. There was this one time I went with my dad last year to Dan Murphy's cause he was looking for something and I thought I might pick something up for myself so I was having a look at the shelf and this old-ish guy comes up to me and is like "surely you're not looking for something for yourself are you?" And I was confused but said I was and he replied "but you can't even drink!" And by now I'm just like what o_o and I tell him I can because I'm eighteen and he's like "oh sorry, you look like you're 14!"
Like omg. I don't even know what to think anymore. I've gotten that a few times like people who don't believe me when I tell them my age. I don't even get mad when it's strangers, I just think it's funny. Like I have no idea how old I "look" and it's too bad but I don't think I could even try and lie and pull off telling someone my age as something younger to get cheaper tickets or something similar lol.
You guys remember my dolphin/fish/shark/whale/whatever you think it is bag right? So many people over the years find it quite funny due to its novelty but I think people in my faculty/cohort in particular find it interesting since we are concerned with animals after all haha. Like last year I also brought out my panda bag and so many times people where like "where on earth do you get all these cute bags!" And they find my bunny pencil case and weird phone cases interesting as well haha.
In contrast, my parents tell me off for being childish and that it's embarrassing for me to have stuff like that OTL. In fact, every week I hear them telling me to get a nice handbag for outings or books or something but I have no interest whatsoever. In fact, Monday this week when I went to hand that report in with a friend I decided to ask a question which I'd been interested in for quite some time. I asked "doesn't it hurt your shoulder when you're carrying your handbag as a school bag, I mean those books must be heavy right?"
And she admitted that it hurts like hell and leaves a red "dent" mark easily and when I asked if she ever switches shoulders to even it out she said nope. I don't really get how like at least 80% of female students at uni carry their stuff in handbags, I just couldn't suffer through that pain. I'd take any backpack over that sorry. And so I asked why she doesn't just use a backpack style bag and she said it's because she can't find one that she really likes. Then she turns to me and is like "I mean it has to be nice or one that has its own thing going on. Like your bags! Like yours right now has cat ears, you can pull off the kawaii but I can't."
By now I was laughing a little to myself because my bag is really just a plain black but according to her, the cat ears are its "thing" but I also laughed because that was pretty much my first time hearing anyone say kawaii. And me, pulling it off? Hahahaha sorry but thanks to my parents sometimes I just wonder if I'm childish.
