late midsem break recap
written on Sunday, May 25, 2014 @ 11:09 PM ✈

Suuuuuuuuper late but oh well! So in the short time that was midsem break, I didn't really do much other than of course catch up on all the work, make notes and do our assignments x_x

Highlights however were when my dad's old classmate who lives in Japan came to Australia! Before he came, he asked if I wanted anything and I replied to him in an email and he got confused since I was using my dad's email and he's like "huh your dad knows Japanese??" xD I feel so bad because he brought so much stuff even though I said if it wasn't too much trouble, it'd like some kit kats or if he can't find that, to get me the kracie popin' cookin' candy sets (lol just typed that into google and it comes up with "kracie popin' cookin' australia" man it must be popular). They're basically a popular kid's toy where you make gummies in the shape of food, it's quite interesting! I made the sushi kit last time so you might have seen it.

Anyway he didn't know what it was (I didn't really expect him to lol) so he asked his wife and she went "Ah!" and apparently went off to buy them. I think they're quite cool, since he's chinese but went to work in Japan and learnt Japanese, and his wife is Japanese and knows chinese and apparently English too from living and studying abroad! :O

I feel so bad they bought so much stuff T___T I just asked for one or the other, not both and not this many!! They said they didn't know which kit I wanted so bought a ton :'( I have no idea how he carried all this here since when he got to our house he had 3 big full plastic bags of this stuff D:  Wish dad told me about him sooner so we could have visited him and his family while we were in Japan! Oh and the kit kat flavours there are green tea, dark chocolate and pudding. Green tea I've tried before, and dark chocolate I expect to taste similar to normal kit kat so I'm interested in the pudding one! These ones are probably more targeted for adults since it says オトナの甘さ, meaning "adult sweetness" so maybe it's not as sugary as normal ones?

Btw I'm totally disappointed in myself because when he came over, he asked me in Japanese how long I've been studying it and DEAR GOD this is something we have practised a billion times for HSC speaking you'd think I'd get it RIGHT by now and what did I say? I accidentally said 高校一年生 which is year 10 even though I've been doing it from year 7 which is 中学一年生 (~) Damn my speaking is seriously poor
( ̄ ̄;)It's because I got flustered and forgot our differences in school systems and said it wrong *cries* I hate how asian languages break high school into two things.

Ah well, he seemed to really enjoy dinner at our house which my dad was fully antsy about, making sure mum made something super tasty haha. Mum doesn't like sashimi (hates raw fish) but prepares it for us time to time and he really REALLY loved it, I swear he demolished 75% of the plate LOL. I hardly had any since it was on the far end of the table.

Aaaaaand the only other thing I really did was pass the driving test ^^ I just had the mindset "I don't want to come here again" which meant that I just couldn't fail. Honestly, I just felt I got much better from 100 hours onwards but then at that stage we started really focusing on parking. Used to hate reverse parallel but now it's like my "thing" since I practised it like crazy. To be honest I wasn't even nervous during the test, it literally felt like taking just a random for a drive.

I swear the most nervewracking bit was practising with my instructor BEFORE the test. Cause he told me off for doing reverse parallel "too fast" (didn't even know that was a thing) and during our practise I had to overtake a rubbish collector truck thing on a narrow street and I was like omg hope this doesn't happen during my test :( He also told me off for stopping WAY too close (I was one whole car space) behind a big truck at the traffic light because apparently the rules say that being able to see the wheel contact the ground is not enough and you must be TWO car spaces when stopping behind a truck. And well I've read the driver's manual at least 5 times already if not more and I have NEVER seen this rule before. Has anyone else? And in real life I've never seen anyone do it, everyone stops behind a truck just like they do behind a car.

So yeah I swear after our practice when he said "I'm sure you won't have a problem passing" I bet he was really thinking this kid is going to fail OTL Anyway I mainly got marks off for driving too slow even though I swear I was always within 5 km or so of the speed limit :'(
